When this was built in 1943, it was the longest continuous subway platform in the world -- seven blocks and over a half mile long. Within my memory (the 1960's), station mezzanines had restrooms, storage lockers and entrances to downtown department stores. At the Monroe mezzanine, you can still see the former basement entrance to Carson Pirie Scott.

The times shown on screen are an hour ahead -- the camera glasses are still on Daylight Savings Time.

You can still get from the State to the Dearborn subway at the Lake station for free, But You Have to go Upstairs and through the Pedway, and swipe Your farecard.
