Описание к видео Forgotten Woman Revolutionaries

Long before the mass movements of the 1930s and ’40s, Bengal became the center of India’s early revolutionary network. Young women stepped into secret cells, carried messages, learned weapons, and carried out missions that shook the British Raj.

Bina Das, a fearless student from Calcutta, fired at the British Governor of Bengal during a university convocation in 1932 — an act meant to expose colonial injustice to the world.

Kalpana Dutta and Pritilata Waddedar, born in Chittagong (then part of undivided Bengal), trained under Surya Sen. Kalpana took part in the Chittagong Armoury Raid, while Pritilata led the daring attack on the Pahartali European Club and embraced cyanide to avoid arrest.

Suniti Chaudhury and Shanti (Santi) Ghosh, just 14-year-old girls from Comilla, carried out the assassination of District Magistrate Charles Stevens in 1931 — a mission that stunned the British administration and revealed the depth of Bengal’s revolutionary resolve.

Durgawati Devi (Durga Bhabhi), though born in Uttar Pradesh, became one of the boldest women in the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). She supported Bengal revolutionaries, famously helping Bhagat Singh escape disguised as a married couple, and later attempted an assassination to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai’s death.

These women weren’t just participants — they were leaders, fighters, strategists, and symbols of resistance. Their courage became the backbone of the underground movement that inspired generations of freedom fighters across India.

This is their story — the forgotten fire of India’s revolutionary age.
