Paris-Roubaix 2019 – EF Gone Racing

They call Paris-Roubaix the Queen of the Classics, but this French royal is a cruel mistress as EF Education First discovered on Sunday. With their big guns locked, loaded, and ready to fire, a combination of mechanicals and misfortune meant that even Sep Vanmarcke’s excellent fourth position felt like a disappointment. “I had the victory in my legs, but I had to let it go,” said the devastated Belgian afterwards. EF Gone Racing was in the velodrome to capture the heartbreak, in the team car to witness the drama, and even on the course when Taylor Phinney suffered the worst possible luck and had to pull out before even the halfway point. But is this still the greatest one-day race in the world? Of course it is, and you can be sure that EF will be back, hoping that Lady Luck turns the wheel in their favour next year. Long live the (Classics) Queen.
