In this two-part series, we are joined by Trevor Park of the Fern Creek & Western Garden Railroad, who has converted more than half a dozen G scale locomotives to battery power.

Battery power ensures that the energy being supplied to the locomotive is not dependent on clean track. Add to this the installation of a DCC decoder and wireless receiver and you have a fully functioning, sound-equipped, completely wireless remote controlled train!

Part 1 demonstrates all the steps required to get the locomotive ready for the battery, receiver, and decoder.
