The art of metal gear solid 5 is exactly what the title implies. However it is important to note this book has no in game guide or artists comments whatsoever. But it does include a foreword by the man himself (yoji shinkawa). That said, its hardcover with good quality paper, A bit different than its predecessor the MGS art collection books focussing on MGS 1-4 and peace walker - but still a doable entry for the hardcore fans.

This edition consists out of 225 pages. The book has three parts all have character art, environmental art and additional things, part 1 ground zeroes - 36 pages. Part 2 The phantom pain 172 pages and part 3 Kingdom of the flies a mere 8 pages. The art book has some beautiful and awesome illustrations, exactly how we want and expect it. It has some comic style story boards and contains some cool mecha design with nice vehicle illustrations. There is a lot of environmental art in it, visualized as neat scenes. However, I must say I am a bit disappointed, especially if you have the art of metal gear solid collection in your art library books as well.

Even though Yoji shinkawa is my favorite artist, this book doesn't capitalize on all his awesome stylized way of drawing. Probably duo the fact that computer models do most of the work and we all know most of the cast their appearances can be created with a only a few images - thus there is not much need for concept art. On that note - some of characters are the general styled drawings which don't utilize his awesome style. Of course these designs are more practical then his typical shadow like character illustrations, but I was still a bit disappointed. Furthermore the book contains some in game designs for guns characters and vehicles which I personally was not interested in, I rather like drawn out versions of those pieces.

So is it a buy? In general no, it doesn't give the spice of most artbooks. However I am not disappointed to have it in my collection, because his art doesn't crumble over the years if you get my drift. That said for MGS V fans its... okish/cool.
