Pros and Cons of Living in Sherman Oaks

Cons
Cost of Living
Although it’s not as expensive as over the hill or into the westside. The cost of living in Sherman oaks is definitely not the cheapest. The average price of a house is around $1.5m and that depends on what specific neighborhoods you live in. As you go more South of Ventura Blvd and up into the hills, housing gets more expensive because it’s a more desirable area to live in Sherman Oaks. Celebrities and people of wealth flocking to these Southern parts of the Valley do not help the cost of living decrease, but it does help the overall look of the city increase.
Crowded
It’s crowded but it’s crowded for a good reason right? People want to live in Sherman Oaks and that’s a good thing, but if you need to get to Studio City, or Encino, driving down Ventura Blvd to get there might take a bit longer than considered because of the traffic. Sherman oaks is right next to where the 405 meets the 101 Freeway and this might just be the most crowded area of freeways in the country. There will most likely always be traffic here so make sure you take in account the traffic when running to any important meetings.
Weather
-Now weather is usually a pro when living in LA but the Summer weather is no joke in the Valley. I’ve lived in the valley for many years and although it gets bearable when you get used to it, it tends to get pretty toasty in the Summers. Expect weather over 100 degrees and when you walk outside, you will immediately start sweating, or is that just me? The good thing about LA is that you are just a 15 minute drive away to 15 degrees cooler over the hill and into the westside, which is also why the valley is more affordable than in the beautiful weather of the city.

Now onto the Pros of Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks is great for absolutely everyone. It’s great for families, great for young adults, great for kids, great to retire. There is really such a big mix of demographics and people in Sherman Oaks, it’s not made for one type of person.
The next pro is Location. Sherman Oaks is extremely Central, close to freeways, close to the heart of Beverly Hills, close to businesses. Ventura boulevard cuts through Sherman Oaks and the best part of Ventura with all of the restaurants and bars you’d want to go to.
The final pro would be schools. There are several great schools in the area, a couple private high schools being Notre Dame, and Harvard Westlake. There are many pockets of Notre Dame that you could truly grow up in and never leave. You can live your entire life in Sherman Oaks and have done and seen everything because of how central it is. Go to a good elementary school, middle school, high school, get a good job, settle down and have kids, then retire, all in Sherman Oaks and you would feel like you never missed out on anything because there’s everything you’d want to do right outside your door.
