Mobility Vs Flexibility Bboy / Breakdance Conditioning & Strength Exercises
Basic Conditioning: Week 3 of 4

Mobility:
The ability to move a joint freely throughout its full range of motion, encompasses the length of the muscle (flexibility), the muscle tension, the joint capsule and ligaments as well as the central nervous system.
Basically, the ability to move or be moved freely and easily.

Flexibility:
The ability to passively lengthen a muscle or group of muscles through a range of motion.

Mobility drills alongside bboy conditioning & bboy strength training has helped me so much with my breakin'.

There is no better substitute than practicing the move or step itself although you can shorten your learning time whilst reducing the risk of injury. Especially with mobility training. Here are a few of the vast amount of benefits:

* Flexibility – IMPROVED!
* Increased range of motion for increased strength potential.
* More muscle activation.
* Decreased risk of injury.
* Decreased soreness and joint pain.
* More fluid movements.
* Mobility training keeps your body young.

Slightly more detailed benefits...

* Safety and Efficiency – Your joints will be able to handle the load (challenging freezes) more safely and efficiently.

* Movement Standards - You will be able to accomplish “standards” of movement easier – performing swings, pretzels, footwork, and legwork much easier.

* Increased Performance - Your body will experience greater resilience and perform for longer periods of time because your muscles are allowed to work optimally and not have to compensate for poor mechanics.

* Faster Recovery – You will recover faster after rounds, throwdowns, battles, or cyphering because activating and using muscles properly avoids overuse.

* Resistance to Injury - You will experience resistance to future injuries due to the prior 4 points working in unison.

For the acquisition of many moves, movements and steps, your body will find it easier by being fit and familiar with similar tasks.
Conditioning as a Bboy is now a massive part of my training as it allows me to make faster progress in my dance especially during times where it's hard to find training space. I started really taking my 'strength & stability' seriously after my injuries became too frequent which was preventing me from taking myself to a higher level.
If you give some of these a try for a week or two, I'd love to know how your body feels when dancing. Let me know in the comments section or message me on some of my other social media platforms. I truly hope this is helpful for those just starting out and fun for those who fancy a challenge!

The benefits of foam rolling have to do with the mobility of the fascia. Fascia is a fibrous layer of connective tissue that surrounds all of the muscles in our body. Without proper mobility, fibers of the fascia become cross-linked and they bind to muscles and nerves, inhibiting normal motion and causing pain.
As I mentioned in the video, I often use my foam roller to prevent or when I have muscle soreness (quite often lol!)
I tend to use mine at night before going to bed.

Welcome to my Bboy / Breakdance tutorials! For all levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced, covering Toprock, Footwork, Freezes & Power Moves. Leave me a comment if you'd like me to make a particular tutorial.

Be advised:
As a Bboy or Bgirl, dancing in this style (Breakin’ / Breakdance) comfortably can take time, hard work and discipline. Harder moves should not be attempted until you master your ‘Basics’ in Toprock, Footwork & Freezes. Make sure you attempt these tutorials in an open space, I am not responsible for any acquired injuries, muscle soreness or any broken furniture. Please be aware of your surroundings and your body at all times.

Before you practice:

1. Get your heart rate up: Always take your time to warm up your entire body.

2. Mobilize your joints and muscles transitioning into a light stretch

3. Optional but recommended mild conditioning of the muscles surrounding the Wrists, Shoulders, Knees, Ankles, and most importantly, Core.
