HOw electric fan motor works ?

Electric fan is define as fan that run by
an electric motor, sometime called a

blower,that converts electrical to

mecahnical works.This one type of home

appliance we are using to make us

comfortable .

generally electric fan is single phase

induction motor run by ac current that

produce a rotating magnitic field.

This of type induction motor is called

permanent split capacitor motor,

this type of motor has low starting torqe

,which suitable for electric fan and air

conditioning system blower.Multi-speed

permanent split capacitor motor is

achieved by changing the winding

resistance. If high speed is required, the

terminal is connected to the least winding

resistance. If low speed is required, the

terminal is connected to the highest

winding resistance.

By using a selector switch to choose the

terminal to be connected to the line

voltage, different speed of fan motor can

be achieved.

In the diagram above, there are 3 motor

speed that can be selected. , High(3),

Medium(2) and Low(1). The selection can be

done by using electronic relays or a manual

selector to connect L2 to one of the three

terminals depending on the speed choosen.

Permanent-split capacitor motor
Also known as a capacitor-run motor, this

type of motor uses a non-polarized

capacitor with a high voltage rating to

generate an electrical phase shift between

the run and start windings.
