In this video, I will talk about the full story behind the KFC Wedding Couple and how they became a viral hit in news and social media. There are also lessons to learn along the way so hop on and enjoy the ride!

Who is the KFC Wedding Couple?

They are Hector Mkansi and Nonhlanhla Soldaat and they hail from South Africa. Hector, who is a pastor, is 37 while Nonhlanhla is 28.

How did they meet?

The couple first met at a funeral in 2010 and since then, they were inseparable. After 2 years of dating, they decided to tie the knot in a simple ceremony.

Their First Wedding.

Families of Hector and Nonhlanhla started lobola negotiations otherwise known as dowry in 2011. A year later, the couple had a small traditional wedding ceremony which was what they could afford at the time. Though they had the ceremony, the couple knew it wasn’t what they really wanted. Hector even admitted that he wasn’t happy with the rings that he got for his wife at the time.

Hector decided that he would buy his wife's new rings. He thought about surprising her with a better proposal and chose KFC as the place for doing the act since it’s Nonhlanhla's favorite place to eat.

From a simple proposal to a viral sensation.

Hector sought help from the team at KFC to make his proposal a successful one. He believed that KFC is the best proposal venue since it’s a place that Nonhlanhla loved. Though the team was surprised with his request, they were happy to help in creating a special moment. After their meals were served, Nonhlanhla looked inside and found the rings. Hector took it as a cue and went down on his knee. He didn’t notice that they were getting the attention of the other customers and that people were actually watching his act.

From KFC to Social Media.

Without their knowledge, someone snapped the special moment on camera and posted the act on social media. While there were some bad comments saying how poor SA men must be for choosing to propose at KFC, they were inundated with more positive comments and support. To make things more exciting they were also getting the support of private individuals, brands and companies. Each vowed to help the couple get the dream wedding that they’ve always wanted to have.

It’s raining sponsors but we’re not using an umbrella!

Wedding Of The Year.
The lovely couple finally had their dream wedding on December 31, the last day of 2019. Only the couple’s close friends and family were invited. When the door opens for the bride’s entrance, the people cheered at Nonhlanhla, who looked really gorgeous and happy in her wedding dress. She was wearing a plain but classic dress that comes with a boat neckline and long train. Her veil was long and regal with a thin border that’s made of lace.

Hector also looked sharp and dashing in his attire. He was wearing a sleek black and cream tuxedo with black lapels and matching black bowtie.

From the wedding ceremony to the reception, the lovely couple was always seen wearing a big smile. Until now, they still couldn’t believe their luck. They feel so thankful to everyone who made it possible for them to have their dream wedding.
