Watch the inspiring performance of “I’m Okay” by Abbie Goldberg and Mason McDowell, captured at our Collective Liberation Salon on December 4th, 2023.

“I’m Okay” is a song from 504: The Musical, which tells the story of the 1977 sit-in for disability rights. During this historic event, 150 disabled people and allies shut down the San Francisco federal building for 26 days until legislation ensuring civil rights for disabled people was signed into law. This powerful musical piece highlights the importance of disability justice, especially within the context of collective liberation.

The song resonates deeply with the belief that collective liberation means no one gets left behind and everyone is celebrated as their fullest self. This message is particularly poignant in light of recent years during COVID-19, where disabled people have been disproportionately affected and often seen as disposable in the rush to return to “normal.”
