Описание к видео Concussion and Pituitary Gland Dysfunction

Are you or is someone you know having persistent problems following a concussion, such as problems with increased visceral fat, reduced muscle, mood changes such as anxiety and depression, fatigue, feelings of isolation, symptoms of cognitive dysfunction, reduced exercise tolerance, and even unfavorable cholesterol profile changes?

If so, the cause of these problems may be something you would never think of -- the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is a pea shaped gland at the base of the brain, right behind the bridge of your nose. It plays a critical role in regulating the hormones in our bodies, including human growth hormone. What many people do not realize is that, following a concussion, there is an increased risk of dysfunction in the pituitary gland leading to problems such as human growth hormone deficiency ("GHD").

Detecting growth hormone deficiency and pituitary dysfunction following a concussion (or "mild traumatic brain injury" or "mTBI") requires specific lab studies, including a "glucagon stimulation test" or "GST." If a deficiency is detected in human growth hormone, a medical doctor called a neuroendocrinologist may recommend that the patient undergo human growth hormone replacement therapy ("GHRT") to address the problem. Many times, GHRT is required for the remainder of the patient's life.

In this video, Richmond, Virginia brain injury lawyer Kevin Mottley discusses the issue of pituitary dysfunction related to traumatic brain injury. Here at The Mottley Law Firm, we represent concussion and traumatic brain injury survivors.
