The Brahan Seer

Описание к видео The Brahan Seer

We went to Chanonry Point to see the dolphins, so the monument to the Brahan Seer, who was killed on this spot, was a bit of serendipity.

The Scots have a reputation for being fey, an interesting word which in modern talk means "over-refined, exaggerated, or affected" but which originally refers to fate and the sort of person who can predict fate and the future.

The Brahan Seer was one of these people and his fame appears widespread in Scotland, where many localities preserve tales of his predictions which came true. He does not appear to have been a prophet in the Christian sense, but his life and his death certainly are an argument against the extreme rationalist point of view, which denies everything except that which can be classed as "science".

There are more things in heaven and earth than this world dreams of.
