Professor Vann will discuss his chance encounter with a dossier from the French archives. The forgotten trove of documents about the quixotic attempt to kill all of Hanoi’s sewer rats drew him into some 20 years of research on three continents. His findings made connections between the history of social justice, racism, and public health. Vann will explain why he chose to tell this story in an unconventional manner: a scholarly comic book.
