How to Test Your Website On Different Devices / Browsers - Don Crowther

Imagine having a tool that can show you how your webpage looks on all the frequently used devices. It's crucial to test your pages on multiple different devices and browsers, because, like most of you, I too create a page and test it on my phone, tablet, and computer before considering it ready. But the limitation is, we probably only have one phone, one tablet, and we definitely don't check it on every single device available. So, what if the devices we didn't test on display our pages very differently, potentially harming our conversion rate? Well, the good news is, there's a tool called blisk.io that allows us to visualize our webpage on various devices simultaneously.

When you visit blisk.io, you can download their program. To demonstrate, I downloaded it and chose one of HubSpot's opt-in landing pages. It features a headline, image, description, and a call-to-action button. It looks great on my computer, but let's see how it appears on other devices. An effective landing page should have the call-to-action button "above the fold," meaning you don't have to scroll down to see it. If it's below the fold, it can drastically reduce your opt-in rate.

So, I'm in the Blisk browser, and it's showing what the page looks like on my computer. I can click a button in the top left corner to see it displayed on a selection of devices I've chosen - iPhone 11 Pro, iPad Pro 11, iPhone SE, a high-resolution desktop, and a MacBook.

Something immediately stands out: the orange call-to-action button isn't visible on the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone SE. Now, this is surprising considering HubSpot's large resources, and yet their button isn't showing on these two devices.

This tool allows me to check out this page on a set of devices and then move to a new set. So, let's scroll down to the Android phones set. Interestingly, none of the Android phones display the button above the fold, requiring scrolling on each one.

Clearly, there's an issue. Perhaps we need to resize the image, reduce the type size, or move the button up for mobile displays to ensure it's visible immediately.

This tool allows us to test across a wide variety of devices. It's not limited to HubSpot's page; you can put in any webpage you want. Let's use Amazon as an example. The experience is different on all devices, indicating that they've carefully tested their display on each one.

Blisk.io offers a free trial. I'm not sure of its duration as I'm still on it, but after that, it's $9.99 a month. My advice is to try it out, check your key pages, and see whether this tool is worth investing in for your future needs.

This is Don Crowther, saying just go do this stuff!
