According to him, statutory appointments like chairing the NHRC or National Green Tribunal are necessary, provided the process is transparent and free from government interference. But when retired judges accept discretionary political appointments — like Rajya Sabha membership, governorships, or vice-presidency — it raises serious concerns of quid pro quo between the judiciary and the government.

Citing examples like Justice Gogoi, Justice Sadasivam, and others, Vikas Singh stresses that judges must resist such political offers to preserve the independence of the judiciary and strengthen public trust in the justice system.
