The Australian state of Victoria has announced that it won't host the 2026 Commonwealth Games due to worries about costs.
The state's premier said on Tuesday, that the event's projected cost had ballooned from an estimated 1-point-8 billion U.S. dollars to over 4-billion dollars.
Victoria volunteered to host the games a year ago when the Commonwealth Games Federation struggled to find a host.
All other Australian states have declined to step in and take over leaving the future of the 2026 games up in the air with less than three years to go.
The CGF and the British government have called the withdrawal "disappointing"
The twelve-day multisport event is held every four years and features competitors from the Commonwealth's 56 members.
