The WEC 6 Hours of Imola is now officially over, with the win of the #51 Ferrari 499P, ahed of the BMW M Hybrid V8 #20 and the other private 499P number #83
My attention during the event was of course also on the European debut on the only Hypercar I still hadn't record before the race, and as you already know, it's the Aston Martin Valkyrie LMH, which already made its debut in Qatar back in February
The Aston Martin Valkyrie was set to race in the WEC Hypercar category starting from the class debut back in 2021, being announced as the first brand to join the World Endurance Championship grid together with Toyota, but, after the announcment of the ACO to let LMDh cars to race in WEC, and the intention of the British manufacturer to join F1 the same year, the Hypercar project was later abandoned, with the Valkyrie LMH remaining a dream not finished
The surprise arrived in October 2023, when Aston Martin, together with The Heart of Racing, announced their were coming back on thei decision, with the Valkyrie LMH project being taken back to life, with a two car entry in WEC and a single car in IMSA, being also the first Le Mans Hypercar to race in the American championship
After an intense year of testing in 2024, the Valkyrie made his official debut in the WEC 2025 season opener in Qatar, with the #007 driven by Harry Tincknell, Tom Gamble and Ross Gunn, while the #009 saw Roman De Angelis, Alex Riberas and Marco Sorensen behind the wheel of the car
Meanwhile the Aston LMH also made its first few races in America, lapping in both the Sebring and Long Beach IMSA rounds
The 6 Hours of Imola marked the first European race of the car, with a difficult weekend which saw the Aston Martins being regurlaly the backmarkes
Neverthenless, it was a joy to hear the great V12 engine of the Valkyrie, which is currently the only Hypercar not equipped by an hybrid engine
