Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. He was one of the most famous and successful artists of his time and is best known for his series of woodblock prints 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' which includes the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa. His work was a significant influence on the Western art world, particularly on the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements.
