First, we welcome Finnish-Canadian author and book coach Liisa Kovala to discuss her gripping new historical novel, Like Water for Weary Souls. Set in a Depression-era Northern Ontario mining town, the story follows Essi Kivi as she digs into the secrets of Nolin Creek, refusing to accept the police’s ruling on her sister’s suspicious drowning. We’ll chat with Liisa about her Finnish heritage, the inspiration behind this tale of sisterhood and survival, and her acclaimed previous works, Sisu's Winter War and Surviving Stutthof.






Next, we are joined by Vancouver author Brad C. Anderson to break down his latest novel, Ashme’s Song. Released by Shadowpaw Press, this gritty, cyberpunk-infused adventure follows Ashme, an "indigo child" capable of controlling computer systems with her mind. Brad shares insights on writing about the heavy toll of civil war as Ashme faces a heartbreaking choice: become the hero the resistance needs against the brutal Ostarrichi rule, or protect her vulnerable twin brother, Shen.
