To Be Clear: You might think it’ll be very easy to become your Belgian Malinois favorite person, since you’re their owner and provide them with everything they need. But that is usually not the case. Your Belgian Malinois choose their favorite person based on certain behaviors and patterns, and sometimes, their primary caregiver doesn’t fit the criteria. But becoming their favorite is possible, as long as you know the things you need to do, and in this video, we will talk about How Belgian Malinois Choose Their Favorite Person, helping you know what to do to become your dog’s number one.
Number 1: Training.
Belgian Malinois are intelligent dogs, and they love nothing more than to learn new tricks and solve new challenges. They love learning and working hand in hand with their owners. If as their owner, you take the time out to train your dog consistently, and teach them new tricks and commands, they’ll bond with you more. This is because training involves a lot of one on one interactions, and it makes it possible for your dog to trust and rely on you more. Training also builds a solid foundation of communication and understanding between you and your dog, and brings a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction for both you and your dog.
Number 2: Time Spent Together.
Dogs are social creatures, which usually means that they do really well when they interact with their pack and spend time with them. What this implies is that, if you consistently take your dog out for walks, play with them, and overall spend time with them, they’ll develop a bond with you, and choose you as their favorite. Dog also tend to connect positive experiences with the person who provides them with it, which usually leads to them feeling comfortable and safe around that person. Spending time with your Malinois is crucial, but not just spending time with them, quality time, where you’re focused on them with no distractions.
Number 3: Affection.
Just like any other dog, Belgian Malinois respond positively to affection and will develop a bond with someone who provides them with it. To create a strong bond, and help your dog develop a sense of security around you, affection is key. This will make them feel loved and appreciated, which in turn will lead to positive behaviors and a stronger bond with you. Too much affection though, can also lead to a stubborn dog that never listens. That’s why it is important to show affection consistently, but not when your dog behaves negatively or destructively.
Number 4: Leadership.
Dogs are pack animals, and usually gravitate towards a leader. If your Belgian Malinois sees you as a strong leader capable of leading a pack, they’ll naturally develop a strong bond with you. You can establish leadership by providing your dog with their needs, and establishing rules and setting boundaries. Being a strong leader doesn’t mean harsh punishments and actions when your dog exhibits bad behaviors, but instead involves using positive reinforcement and reward based training to train your dog correctly. If your Belgian Malinois considers you a leader, their bond with you will definitely become stronger.
Number 5: Similar Interest.
Belgian Malinois are active dogs with lots of energy. They’re intelligent dogs that need a consistent routine and activity level to stay happy and healthy. In order for them to thrive, they need someone with a similar lifestyle, someone active that enjoys different outdoor activities like hiking or running. If you have a similar lifestyle to your dog, they’ll develop a strong bond with you, and engaging in different activities with you will make you become their favorite person.
