Rolf Peterson takes us to Caribou Island on Isle Royale National Park. He received a tip that a moose calf died on the island. Here we see Peterson remove the skull and cut off a leg bone of the moose. He'll add it to the collection of bones in the Isle Royale Wolf-Moose study. Researchers use these finds to reconstruct the overall moose population on the island, and to determine the overall health of the animals. Understanding these prey animals, helps the researchers understand how their predators interact with them. Researchers have been watching the wolves and moose on Isle Royale continuously since 1958.
