Down vs Synthetic Sleeping Bags | Know Before You GO

Down is a fantastic natural product, and is a much better insulator than any man made fabric. The advantages of down is has a fantastic warmth-to-rate ratio, it warms up very quickly with your body warmth warming it up. It also breaths very well, so your comfortable in a much wider temperature range . Its really compressible, so it will squash to a tiny pack size and then lofts back up again

The disadvantages of down is that when it gets wet it looses its insulation properties and takes quite along time to dry, its also quite a lot more expensive than synthetic bags.

The advantages of synthetic sleeping bags is that they deal with moisture a lot better, they'll actually retain about 70% of their insulation when there wet. They also dry really fast and are very easy to care and look after.

The disadvantages, is that when compared to their down equivalent they are much bigger and heavier when compressed down. They also don't really have a longer life time when compared to a down sleeping bag
