Rosalind got her results today. Unfortunately we are not allowed to post the recording of her exam so this recording is just a quick indicator of her level - her exam was a little better quality. Link in video will take to more videos of her level. We only recorded the once and Rosalind was happy and didn't want to do another attempt which unfortunately was punished by the ABRSM algorithm but never mind. Her scores were as follows:-

Trad. Welsh: Y Delyn Newydd, arr. Blackwell
The pulse didn’t establish itself at the beginning and rhythmically more control was needed. Notes were broadly in place and intonation generally secure, but the style and character needed greater exploration to carry the music fully.

Beethoven: Ode to Joy: from Symphony No. 9, Op. 125, arr. Scott-Burt
This was played at an apt tempo with mostly controlled rhythms and an even pulse. The shape and contrasts could have been developed much more to find the character, but there were some hints of dynamic contrast and the intonation was mostly focused.

Trad. Scottish: Skye Boat Song, arr. Gritton
A lilting feel to this performance with a projected melody. The pulse needed more security, however, passages tended to rush, and some notes lost clarity tonally. The shape and contrasts could have been developed further to give the performance a greater sense of character. Intonation generally in place.

Trad.: What shall we do with the drunken sailor? arr. Bullard
A lively tempo and some effective dynamic contrasts. Rhythmically, greater control was needed and the pulse lost stability at times, but there was a feel for the character and style.

Performance as a whole
There could have been greater sense of performance, the pieces were rather hurried through, leaving minimal time between items and affecting the overall communication of the music. There was some stylistic realisation, but this was quite limited, the dynamic range and character of each piece needing much more exploration. Technically, a strong sense of pulse was lacking in most items, but notes and intonation generally secure overall.

I think these were all very fair points and the correct grade was awarded. Just two months till Grade 2!
