The 2024 Motocross des Nations in Matterley Basin is officially over. Team Australia (Jett and Hunter Lawrence and Kyle Webster) came away with a career-first win with 26 points. Team USA (Eli Tomac, Aaron Plessinger, and Cooper Webb) finished 2nd with 29 pts., and the Netherlands (Jeff Herlings, Kay de Wolf, and Glenn Coldenhoff) finished 3rd with 36.

The first race started out with Spain's Jorge Prado getting the early lead. Slovenian Tim Gajser got around Prado and led throughout to win the first moto. Tomac did well with a 2nd place ride for Team USA, but Cooper Webb got a bad start and could only salvage a 17th, which was the USA's drop score.

Race two saw Spain's Rubin Fernandez take the early lead, but Australia's Jett Lawrence got a much better start. Jett got around Fernandez and cruised to the win. USA's Plessinger got an OK start, but he lost some positions and finished a lowly 7th, just two spots ahead of Cooper Webb.

At this point, Team USA was tied with the Netherlands at 19 going into the last moto.

The final race of the day saw Tomac pull the holeshot and Team USA had one chance at the win. Unfortunately, Tomac was no match for two Hondas in Gajser and Jett Lawrence. Tomac would finish a distant 3rd, essentially dashing the USA's hopes of a win. The race came down to the final turn with Jett Lawrence leading and Tim Gajser stalking him.

Gajser made a last-ditch effort and found an extreme inside line to rob Jett Lawrence of the final moto win. Jett finished a close 2nd, but it was enough for Team Australia to win the des Nations by 3 points over Team USA.

While Tomac came away 3rd, Aaron Plessinger had a not-so-great moto finish in 8th.

For Team USA, it's back to the drawing board until 2025 when Ironman Raceway in Indiana, USA will host the next Motocross of Nations.
