The Blue Danube, or The Beautiful Blue Danube (original German title: An der schönen blauen Donau op. 314, On the Beautiful Blue Danube), is a waltz composed by Johann Strauss (son) in 1866. Johann von Herbeck, conductor of the Wiener Männergesangverein, asked Strauss to write a waltz for his choir. Herbeck had long been displeased with the men's choir repertoire, which in his opinion was mediocre and gray, so he wanted a "lively and cheerful" choral waltz for that year's carnivals. The lyrics would be written by the permanent poet of the choral society.

Strauss set to work, and soon finished the commission, which would be the most famous and popular of his four hundred waltzes.

Have a nice day sincerely, the court musician.
