Is it possible for a bear to kill your horse?

From what i have been told the only thing which can kill the death horse is a huge fall, also the pestillence horse i know is very hard to kill, however i do not know of the top of my head the amount of damage it can take. if in doubt then take 2 hits, then run around for a while then come back to the bear :)

Would it work if i shot the bear in the but with a pistol bullet then kill it with the torch?

From what i know of then YES! It should work, i know for a fact one of my mates on the normal RDR where you have to kill a bear with a knife, shot the bear a few times then knived it and he got the challenge completed so i expect it should work on Undead Nightmares aswell.
