Petra is a place many people would like to visit in a "bucket list" kind of way, but not nearly as many who'd like to get there actually do. It takes some planning and a good sense of adventure, especially when you're solo and driving yourself around Jordan in a rental. Due to current conflict in the middle east (and an abundance of caution) I decided to enter/exit in southern Jordan, and only venture as far north as Petra. I landed in Aqaba, picked up a rental car, drove to Wadi Rum for the mini-adventure of a lifetime, then up a bit further to my bucket-list destination of Petra for a few days...
