The existing climatic and environmental conditions turn the achievement of optimal production of agricultural crops growing in typical greenhouses into a challenging endeavor.
Implementing digital technologies for automated monitoring and management of the microclimatic environment along with the establishment of a system that allows full production traceability for individual properties could be an effective solution.
This is what Green-IoT project achieved by utilizing IoT components for the development of an advanced metering infrastructure. Green-IoT, executed by the Center of Technology Transfer of the University of Zagreb and SIMT DOOEL, an information engineering company in North Macedonia, offers automatic collection of agricultural and electrical monitoring data which are transferred to a database of a web server and presented in tables and graphic. Data analysis indicates alarm conditions for certain actions, while tailor-made algorithms allow for automatically managing the cultivation of various types of agricultural products.
Thanks to this innovative system, productivity is increased, operational costs and energy consumption are reduced and soil erosion and salinization are decreased.
