Cucumber farming

Cucumber is cultivated profitably by the farmers. They cultivate Tarang and Urmi varieties of the cucumber round the year. Tarang can be grown from February end till September and Urmi can be grown from the month of August till March.
An approximate cost- benefit ratio per 1 acre is calculated below as per the farmer’s opinion.
They spend Rs.4000/- for 500 grams of seeds to be planted in 1 acre. They apply 7 kilograms of Carbofuran which costs them Rs.1000/-, 350 kilograms of chemical fertiliser- Rs.14000/-, 10 kilograms of micronutrients- Rs.2000/-, liquid pesticide and hormones- Rs. 3000/-, trellis + tillage/ ploughing + labour- Rs. 12000/- and other expenses- Rs.10000/-. So, Rs. 46,000/- in total.
Harvesting starts at around 45th day continues till 90th day after planting. They harvest around 500 kilograms of fresh cucumber every day for 20 days= 10000 kilograms. Then they harvest around 200 kilograms of fresh cucumber every day for next 25 days= 5000 kilograms. So, they harvest around 15000 kilograms of fresh cucumber from 1 acre which is expected to be sold at Rs.25/- per kilogram. So, gross income will be around Rs.3,75,000/- per acre and net profit will be Rs. 3,29,000/- approximately.
