On 24 May 1967, ITN's Alan Hart reported on the growing crisis in the Middle East. As the United Nations Emergency Force began withdrawing from the Gaza Strip on the orders of Egypt's President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Hart and his crew captured Israel as it mobilised its military reserves to face off against Egyptian forces amassing on its border. In a fascinating and revealing interview with Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Dayan, Hart asked whether, if war became unavoidable, Israel would feel the need to strike first. "I hope so," the general replied.

Days after Hart's report aired in Britain, Israel launched a davastating surprise attack on its Arab neighbours Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. Destroying most of the Egyptian air force's planes on the ground in the first hours of fighting, Israel would within six days occupy the entirety of the Sinai desert, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights.
