In this video Mike Gow (Chairman of The Henry Noble History of Dentistry Research Group) and Kieran Fallon (Treasurer) investigate the 'The Glasgow Dental Hospital Cup' which was contested by Rangers, Celtic, Partick Thistle, Clyde, Queens Park and Third Lanark in Season 1928/29.

By 1924 it was recognised that a new dental hospital was required in Glasgow, and with no NHS yet and an estimated cost of £90,000- a huge fund-raising campaign started.

One of the fund-raising ideas was for 'The Glasgow Dental Hospital Cup' and November and December 1928, 6 football teams from the Glasgow Association played in a one-off tournament to help raise funds for the proposed new Glasgow Dental Hospital building. The winners would keep The Glasgow Dental Hospital Cup and the players would each receive a 9ct gold medal.

The gate money from the games raised a total of £819 for the building fund. Perhaps more could have been raised if the glamour tie of Rangers vs Celtic had taken place, but it was not to be. Partick Thistle knocked out both Old Firm teams- beating Celtic 3-1 in the Semi Final, and Rangers 2-0 in the final.

It was perhaps meant to be that The Glasgow Dental Hospital Cup would be won by 'The Jags'!
