Utopia 500 is commemorating the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More’s Utopia. The project will be carried out globally throughout 2016 with the aim of engaging the public in the idea of utopia as a driver of social change and as a source of inspiration for innovation in science and technology.

The project is being jointly carried out by CETAPS — Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (Univ. of Porto and Nova de Lisboa), by Óbidos — Vila Literária, and by the Utopian Studies Society/Europe.

It includes three sections — Great Utopians, Sounds of Utopia and Pan-Utopia 2100 - along with a forthcoming international conference (in Lisbon, 5-9 July) and the celebrated literary festival Folio (Óbidos, September/October).
