Inside the pen, there’s a little cover that opens to let the nib out and closes to conceal the nib. This design feature keeps the nib from drying out. The pen also has a very interesting filling system.

The Platinum Curidas Filling System:

The Platinum Curidas has a small, piston filler converter. The pen is designed so that you simply push, twist and pull and you gain access to fill the fountain pen. (Watch the video for a close up of how it’s done). When the pen is pulled apart, you’ll find that it looks a lot like any other fountain pen nib housing and converter unit. Once you’re done filling the pen with fountain pen ink, you put it back together the same way you took it apart and screw the two pieces of the pen’s casing together and you’re ready to go.

Overall Look of the Pen Design: Platinum Curidas

The Pen Gangsta really likes the way the pen looks. She likes the clear demonstrator-like body and that you can see inside the pen. She appreciates the thought put into the design of the pen that is cohesive with some of the interior parts made in silver so you can see that beautiful metallic through the red.

While she likes the ability to retract the nib, she thinks the “button” is a little strange and she admits it turned her off at first.

What is the Platinum Curidas Fountain Pen Nib Like?

The nib is a steel nib - and it looks like it can be changed out. The Curidas pen comes in blue, red, Graphite Smoke, clear (called Prism Crystal), and Urban Green. The red is quite beautiful. Overall, she thinks it’s a pretty cool pen.

According to the specifications, the total length of this pen is 6”. When the nib is out, the size goes down to about 5.5”. As far as weight is concerned, it’s not a heavy pen. It’s actually quite light. It has a nice weight to it - a nice balance. The diameter of the pen is about ½” So it’s not super big, but it’s not tiny either. It’s very nice.

How to Ink Up the Platinum Curidas:

1. Unscrew the barrel.
2. Push in the converter unit and turn it to slip it out.
3. Set the back section aside.
4. Submerge the nib in the ink and ink as you would any other converter.
5. Don’t worry - the little plastic piece won’t fall off into your ink - Platinum thought of that.

Pen Gangsta inked the Platinum Curidas with Leonardo Officina Italiana Black fountain pen ink during the review. Also of note, while inking the pen the Pen Gangsta did notice that it appears that you can change out the nib.

How Does the Platinum Curidas Write?

The fine nib quill has a nice, fine line and not a whole lot of flexibility -which is okay. Reverse writing is itty bitty. Unfortunately that little piece near the nib kind of rubs on her ring finger, but since the clip is removable, it’s not a deal breaker. She rather enjoyed the way the Platinum Curidas writes - even with a fine nib. She’s not usually one to reach for a fine nib - at least not very often. It writes really smooth for a steel nib.

She likes the weight and balance of the pen. There’s only one thing she does not like about the pen is the small piece of the design near the nib that extrudes from pen. It appears to exist as a place for the piece that covers the nib; which is a vital part of the pen design. For this particular review, it hurts her finger, but everybody writes differently, so it might not bother others. She does note that the little piece near the nib would also serve the purpose of keeping your pen from rolling off your table top if you have the clip removed.

According to Platinum, when not being used, the Curidas should hold ink for 6-8 months without drying out.
