Snapdragons can have poor germination rates when they're not given the right planting conditions. If you're new to gardening, don't make these mistakes when sewing your Snapdragon seeds:

1: Covering with soil when planting (they prefer to be surface sown, which means the seeds lay on top of the soil exposed to light rather than being buried.)

2: Allowing cells to dry out (surface sown seeds can dry out quickly if the medium is not kept moist.)

3: Forgetting to stratify self-harvested seed (poor germination may occur when seeds have not experienced cold treatment.)

To start, stratify seeds in the freezer If they were self-harvested by you or someone you know. If they are from a packet you can skip this step. Next, scatter your seeds atop moistened potting mix. Do not cover the seeds as they need exposure to light to germinate. Over the course of 7 to 14 days, mist these cells lightly once or twice per day with water, or use a dome to lock in moisture. Once you see 50% of the seedlings germinating, you can stop misting and stick with bottom watering.
