Austin serves as the state capital and has about a million people. Its the11th largest city in the United States and the fourth largest in the state of Texas. One of the things that brings people to Austin Texas is the thriving job market. Another pro about Austin is the Austin music scene. Austin is also a creative community. One of my favorite things: the different types of dining options. Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, Zilker Park, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt are some of the trails and parks in the area. Since 1915, Deep Eddy Pool has been a popular swimming destination for locals and visitors. And then the Congress Avenue Bridge has about 40,000 bats living under it during certain times of the year that take flights at sunset. There are highly rated schools around the Austin area and there’s also universities such as the University of Texas, St. Edwards and Austin Community College. Residents benefit from Texas’ no state income tax and there’s affordable energy costs. The median home price in Austin is about $570,000. Austin has a strong community vibe and was voted one of the best places to live according to US News and World Reports. Austinites embrace the phrase “Keep Austin Weird.” Austin is warm year-round except for when it’s really warm a few months out of the year. Along with the weather being a pro it can also be a con because of the extreme temperatures for a few months of the year. Although housing is less expensive than in some cities in the US, housing can be expensive in the Austin area, particularly in the city of Austin. Texas has no state income tax but property taxes in Austin are among the highest in the state. Austin can have a lot of traffic. Transportation costs are about ten percent higher than the national average. Austin is bike friendly but not perfect. There are definitely times of the year that you do not want to ride a bike, and the middle of the day is particularly hot. Cap Metro has a bus route. Austin is also known for its allergies. The rapid development of Austin has led to some gentrification, misplacing long-time residents and altering the city’s character.
