This is a short walk in NYC’s Chinatown from MTA’s IND Eighth Avenue line B Train, pulling into the Grand Street Station, exiting the station onto Grand Street, then onto Elizabeth Street to Canal Street between Mott and Mulberry Street in the bright and sunny afternoon of 2/5/2021.
The area by the Grand Street subway station was also considered the Bowery.
Formerly inhabited by the homeless, alcoholics, drug addicts and prostitutes.
Asians started to move into the neighborhood, displacing the “Bowery Bums” as the original Chinatown (the Western part of the Canal Street area) became gentrified and renamed Tribeca, SOHO, etc. The Bowery is also experiencing its gentrification as older buildings are being torn down and replaced with condos and Hotels.
