Описание к видео The First Mass | Readings in Philippine History

The First Mass in Philippine history refers to the mass celebrated by the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan on March 31, 1521, upon landing in the Philippines. It took place in the island of Limasawa, which is now part of Southern Leyte. This event is considered significant as it marked the introduction of Christianity to the Philippines. Magellan's arrival and the subsequent mass initiated the process of Spanish colonization and the spread of Catholicism throughout the archipelago. The First Mass holds cultural and historical importance in the Philippines, symbolizing the beginning of centuries-long religious and cultural influences from the West.
