Dr. Douglas R. Dodson has been with The New Mexico Bone and Joint Institute since 1994. He is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in Total Joint Replacements. His training has taken him to some of the most prestigious medical centers in the country, training under world renowned surgeons and pioneers in medical research. Each of them come to AOSM with subspecialty fellowship training, academic excellence, outstanding medical judgment and surgical skills. Their integrity is unquestioned and they display dedication and compassion for our community. Our physicians have served this area for over 60 years combined!

Dr. Dodson strives to increase his orthopedic knowledge above that required by the medical societies. He was recently honored as a new Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Out of more than 50,000 orthopedic surgeons in the country, only 1400 have received this honor. He was selected due to his fellowship training and vast number of joint replacement surgeries he has performed over the last 2 decades. Dr. Dodson was also honored as a Fellow and Diplomat of the International College of Surgeons.

Dr. Dodson is one of only several joint replacement specialists on the research and design team for Renovis Surgical Technologies, an orthopedic implant company with numerous products in the spine, trauma and adult reconstruction field. He is currently assisting in the design of one of the newest hip and knee replacements that will be soon be entering the market.

In addition performing joint replacements, Dr. Dodson has experience and interest in surgeries involving the hands, shoulder and knees, as well as caring for fractures and ligament injuries. He delivers non operative treatment for back pain and is known as a worker compensation specialist.

Dr. Dodson believes that "Volunteering is the greatest service one can provide to their community. We all have to pitch in and help out. There are so many opportunities out there. What a difference each of us can make!"

Finally, and most importantly, Dr. Dodson enjoys family time with his wife Becky and three kids. "We love sports, traveling, music , photography and service related projects."
