"Sweet Is the Day" is Mary Alice Amidon's jubilant a cappella SATB setting of an Isaac Watts poem she loved from the Sacred Harp song "Devotion". She was commissioned to compose this for "The Vermont Composer's Project" sponsored by Burlington Vermont's Social Band chorus.

The singers are, from left to right: Cora Neilsen Kelly, Zara Bode (Stefan's wife), Mary Alice Amidon, Suzannah Park, Emily Miller, Jeff Fellinger, Gideon Crevoshay, Stefan Amidon (Peter & Mary Alice's younger son) Avery Book and Peter Amidon.

Sweet is the day of sacred rest,
No mortal cares shall seize my breast,
Oh may my heart in tune be found
Like David's harp of solemn sound.

Then shall I see and hear and know
All I desired and wished below,
And every pow'r find sweet employ,
In that eternal world of joy.

When grace hath well refined my heart.
