A Guide to Planting Boxwood

Описание к видео A Guide to Planting Boxwood

I have a love for boxwood! After a new walkway was installed last year (make sure to go watch that video:    • My New Entryway Path  ), I knew I needed to update the area to help the walkway feel finished. To do that, I added some boxwood to balance out the other boxwood in the area.

I started with smaller boxwoods, knowing they'll grow quickly and can be pruned to any shape and size. If not pruned, these Green Velvet boxwood reach 3-4 feet tall and wide, and have a globe-shaped growth pattern.

Here's the process:

Start with a well-watered plant. Dig a hole about two times the size of the container the plant is in.
If the native soil seems to be lacking nutrients and full of clay, amend up to 50% of the soil with good quality compost. Using 100% could cause the roots to avoid wanting to branch out into the native soil.
Break up the roots of the shrub to encourage new root growth.
Add soil back around the shrub and press the soil into the open cavities.
Water well and allow the roots to dry slightly before watering again. Add mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
