Preeclampsia | Don't Ignore These Symptoms During Pregnancy

This video tells the story of a couple getting pregnant with their first baby. Six months into the pregnancy she starts getting pretty bad headaches and swollen feet but she chooses to ignore it and hope its nothing serious. As she goes for check-up she is admitted into the hospital immediately as the doctor finds out she has preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is characterized by abnormally high blood pressure and protein in urine, which means kidney trouble. Symptoms, range from mild to severe, including intense headaches, vision problems, abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, and trouble thinking straight. Beyond that, preeclampsia causes trouble in the placenta, restricting the blood vessels that keep the flow between mother and baby, cutting off the supply which can cause all kinds of complications for the baby. Left untreated, preeclampsia can be fatal for both the mother and child.

We chose to make a video out of this story as we believe it is important to raise awareness on this topic. Apprxoimately 5 percent of the pregnancies present with preeclampsia. There is double the risk in first-time pregnancies. If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above or in the video, we recommend you to seek medical advice immediately.
