The starter solenoid gave me grief yesterday, not always activating, and so it turned into a demonstration lesson for my student on how to hand prop a Cessna 172.
With mags off, prime and then suck in fuel air mixture, next mags on and a light turning of the prop through the magneto impulse coupling release point, and she runs.

This also demonstrates how dangerous it is to turn a propellor by hand and how easily it will start.
