There is something special about being the first game in a franchise.
It’s a fresh page, a blank canvas, something that can only be done once so no other game will ever provide the same feeling to it’s players. There can’t be any expectations and you don’t risk losing any fans because there is none to begin with.
After the Kingdom Hearts 1 Critique video I was honestly blown away by the amount of people that checked it out and shared very similar opinions in the comments section below. The sense of simple enjoyment and immersion, not over the top but still enjoyable combat, accompanied by nostalgia for both the game and disney, are some of the main reasons people love going back to the original game. (DURING THIS SHOWCASE SOME COMMENTS FROM THE CRITIQUE)
So as soon as that video was finished I couldn’t wait to jump straight into the next game in the franchise, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain Of Memories.
And there are a few reasons why, of course first of all I was excited to continue this series of revisiting one of my favourite franchises of all time.
However what made me extra excited for this game specifically, is the heavily mixed opinions regarding it online.
Unlike Kingdom Hearts 1, Chain of Memories is not an easy game to get into, you can’t just introduce this to your friend, family member or loved ones and say
“Oh try this game you’ll love it”
And that’s because Chain Of Memories, for better or worse, is VERY Unique.
This is mostly due to it’s combat system which heavily differs from it’s first game, no longer being simple and easy to understand, it now requires much more focus and attention to detail if you have any hopes of reaching the end.
It’s so different in fact that many people who try getting into the franchise would rather watch a cutscene compilation online than actually attempt to beat the game.
Of course that’s better than just skipping the game fully, it hurts to see this because the experience you get from just cutscenes will never be the same as actually playing through the game.
I have the exact same opinion about 358/2 days as well which on current consoles is only available through cutscenes which do a decent job however it will never provide the same feeling as playing it yourself.
As for the other reason why I looked forward to this video, like I mentioned earlier, it is no longer a blank canvas.
Despite it not being called Kingdom Hearts 2, chain of memories is very much a sequel in every aspect of imagination.
It is specifically made to be played after the original, and is crucial to get the best experience out of Kingdom Hearts 2.
So as it’s no longer the starting point there are expectations and guidelines people would expect the game to follow, meaning the chance of disappointment is now possible.
I will be going over the story, gameplay and everything Chain of Memories has to offer to the player.
If you enjoyed this video, a like and comment would be much appreciated to help the channel,
