You may have seen a recent video circulating that appears to show a deputy being struck. While this video has gained many views, it represents only one perspective captured by a bystander. We invite you to also view the incident from the deputy’s perspective as recorded on body-worn camera.

On September 29, 2025, deputies responded to a disturbance involving an adult male reported to be in the roadway and experiencing a mental health crisis.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered a male subject exhibiting erratic behavior consistent with being off prescribed medication. Deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation through communication. At one point, the subject became aggressive and attempted to strike a deputy. Although it appears from the bystander’s view that the deputy was struck, he was not hit and was not injured.

Recognizing the subject’s behavior was the result of a mental health condition, deputies, both trained in crisis intervention used appropriate techniques to safely take him into custody without injury. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation under the Florida Baker Act.

This case highlights the importance of crisis intervention and our agency’s ongoing commitment to handling mental health-related incidents with professionalism, patience, and care. While these situations can be unpredictable, our deputies work to resolve them with minimal force and with the wellbeing of the individual at the forefront.
