This video was recorded by Musuweu Theron Kolokwe in Windhoek, Namibia. Herero is primarily spoken by the Herero and Mbanderu people in Namibia, Botswana, and parts of Angola. Ethnologue recognizes three varieties of Herero: Himba, East Herero, and Botswana Herero, although there are other closely related languages that have historically been considered dialects of Herero. In Namibia, Otjiherero is taught in schools as a secondary language as well as being used for a language of instruction. It is one of the six minority languages spoken on the Namibian State Radio (NBC), and is included as a principal material at the University of Namibia.

Herero is spoken by around 237,000 people worldwide. It is a Southern Bantoid language within the Atlantic-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family.
