Malati Murmu a woman of indigenous family, lives in a rural environment along with husband in Jilingsereng village across the Ajodhya Hills area of Purulia.

🏫 Venture in the education field

Around 2020—21, after marriage, he started turning his clay cottage into a classroom. Currently in charge of 45 children, teaching free mainly to rural children.

Teaching from primary (first to fourth) class, basically in Ol Chiki script in Santali language, as well as Bengali and English education.

No government money or salary, fully operated with local coordination and community support.

🏡 Classroom & Community Support

First starting from a tiny clay room (mud hut), then a classroom of mud sugar walls and tin discounts is built with community support. Educational programs are still very practical and short-decided.

✅ Impact & Appreciation

Students are eager to study in Santhali language, learning and enthusiasm has increased among them. Most of the families have agreed to change their perspective and send them to Malati’s class instead of government schools.

Educational administration and academics—especially Shripati Tudu of Sidho Kanho Birsha University—commented that the work she has done was significant as model of rural and indigenous education.
