What is the Kagurazaka Festival and Awaodori Dance Competition?
Kagurazaka is a place where you can enjoy a stroll through the atmospheric back alleys. The Kagurazaka Festival is one of the summer festivals that is full of good old-fashioned atmosphere.
Kagurazaka Street stretches from north to south with Bishamonten at the center. The Kagurazaka Festival is held every year on the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the end of July.
The first Wednesday and Thursday are the "Hoozuki Market". In addition to a festival and ground cherries for sale, you can also see Japanese drums and Kagura dance.
And the last Friday and Saturday are the Kagurazaka Awaodori Dance Competition. It began in 1972 and is a festival with a history of nearly 50 years. About 20 groups that have practiced a lot parade down Kagurazaka Street, attracting many spectators.
