Enjoy a video version of the documentary "From Wetlands to Waste" from the Southeast Chicago Archive and Storytelling Project. (For an interactive version of the documentary, go to sechicagohistory.org). This video gives an overview of the environmental history of Chicago's old steel mill region. It spans the time from its early wetland history to the rise of the steel industry to the region's industrial collapse in the 1980s. It also considers the rise of environmental activism in the area, including against the region's many landfills. This documentary was created from stories told by Southeast Chicago residents and the objects they donated to the Southeast Chicago Historical Museum. Thanks to all who contributed to this story!
