Описание к видео Lou Cardenas Oral History, Part 2

This is a continuation of the March 17, 1992 interview between Linda Lea of Longmont Channel 3 and Lou Cardenas. During the 1970s, Lou got involved in many organizations in Longmont, some of which she helped found. She and Linda mention Meals on Wheels, the Urban Renewal Project, the Senior Center, and the Council on Aging. Lou discusses how the Council on Aging worked to try to get door to door transportation in Longmont. She talks about how she got involved in the community and advises how others can get involved. Her involvement was an education for her, she comments, as she didn’t have a high school or college education. She then talks about memories of Christmas traditions in New Mexico when she was young and moves on to talk more about her early life in the sugar beet fields. She mentions that each row was about a quarter of a mile long and that the work was very hard. Linda asks about Lou’s children, and also about what Longmont was like when she first arrived in 1929. The interview ends with her discussing how Longmont has grown and changed so much and that it is going to end up like Denver or part of Denver. The tape goes on for about three more minutes with shots of pictures of Lou’s family including a picture of people in an empty field sitting among sacks attached to tripods partially filled with an unidentified crop.
