Mark Oliver of Perth believed whole-heartedly in fairies, as did Mrs May Hands, who was convinced her brother-in-law could see spirits.

In this story from the ABC’s This Day Tonight, reporter Rory Sutton is shown an image of the Cottingley Fairies. Now a well-known hoax, for many years the photographs, taken by two girls from Yorkshire, were interpreted by some as evidence of psychic phenomena. Writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was among those taken in, using the images in a 1920 article about fairies.

This story aired on ABC TV on 3 May 1971.
